Pushing For cat neutering

Malta Independent Tuesday, 1 September 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Dear Daphne, thank you from the bottom of my heart for this article (Like an animal, TMI 27 August). I have never been able to understand, for example, why dogs are kept on roofs.

Thanks to you now I do. It begs the question though, how can we change that mindset?

Perhaps you might, at some time, write about the plight of, so called, feral cats, who are in reality homeless. For most of my eight years on Gozo a few others and myself have spent a great deal of time, and money, on trapping and neutering feral cats and kittens.

We are constantly sick and horrified at the callous way these pitiful animals are treated. Time after time I am told that it is against church teaching to have them neutered. Presumably it is not against church teaching to scoop them up as newborns and throw them away. An article by you would be timely, as the government has again allocated little money for feral cat neutering.

Dare I say that the Church could do so much to alleviate the problem of cruelty to animals if only somebody in authority would speak out, but no one ever does.
