Winners and runners-up of various tournaments organised by VLTC were presented with trophies during an activity held recently at the club. The competitions involved were the San Michel Teams tournament, the Wilson teams tournament, the Medsea singles and Playcraft doubles.
San Michel teams
tournament
A large number of veterans and beginners participated in this tournament which was played between six teams in a round robin format.
In the semi-finals, the team captained by Joe Callus beat Christine Scerri’s team while the team captained by Joe Vella had the better of the team led by Doriana Portelli.
The final was played in front of a sizeable crowd which saw Joe Vella’s team beat Joe Callus’ team by seven sets to five. Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, producers of San Michel Table Water, sponsored the event.
Wilson teams tournament
The Wilson teams tournament was played on a 14-game, round robin basis.
In the semi-finals, the team of Christine Scerri beat Stephen Belli’s team while the team captained by Lino Scicluna eliminated that of Joe Aquilina.
The final was played on the Orienta court in front of an enthusiastic crowd which assisted to some fine play. Despite stiff opposition from Christine Scerri’s team, Lino Scicluna’s team emerged on top.
The event was sponsored by the Wilson sports firm through its representative in Malta, Gordon Asciak.
Medsea singles tournament
This tournament, sponsored by Medsea Shipping Agency of G. Debono Square, Msida, was played on the best result won in three tie-breaks.
In the Men’s section, Bradley Callus emerged the winner with Denzil Agius runner-up, while the Women’s section was won by Suzanne Cutajar with Lucienne Meli runner-up. The Consolation event was won by Clifton Caruana with Keith Micallef runner-up.
Playcraft doubles
tournament
This year the Playcraft doubles tournament attracted no fewer than 54 men and 32 women participants. The event was sponsored by Playcraft Trophies and Engravers of Zabbar Road, Paola.
The men were grouped into five divisions while the women formed the remaining three divisions.
The winners were:
