The Malta national squad, made up of 15 players, has been training every day ever since the national championships came to an end. It is preparing for its participation in the Men’s European B championships to be held in Lugano, Switzerland between Saturday and 13 September.
The squad is made up of Josie Cachia, Alan Borg Cole, Jerome Gabaretta, Steve Camilleri, Jordan Camilleri, Clint Debono, Matthew Pisani, Jurgen Borg, Paul Privitera, Jonathan Valletta, Michele Stellini, John Soler, Mark Meli, John Brownrigg and Niki Lanzon.
The final 13 players shall be confirmed before the squad’s departure to Lugano tomorrow.
Malta earned a place in the Men’s European B Waterpolo Championships in May 2009 after it won its Group without suffering any losses during the qualifiers that were held at the National Pool at Tal-Qroqq.
The association’s president, Dr Austin Sammut, thanked the national Waterpolo squad’s kit sponsors, Eurosport and Arena, who have, this year, completely renovated the squad’s outfit, and the national airline Air Malta, which is the association’s official carrier.
In the Men’s European B championships Malta has been drawn in Group B together with The Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, Georgia and Great Britain. Malta’s first commitment in the preliminaries shall be right after the Opening Ceremony against the host country Switzerland at 7.30pm next Saturday.
