I am an avid swimmer and this summer I was particularly struck by the increase in the number of swimmers’ zones designated by the Malta Maritime Authority (MMA).
And they are pretty large areas, clearly showing the authority’s commitment to encouraging swimming among the Maltese public during the summer months.
I recently met someone who spends six months on his sailing boat and he too commented that the MMA has done an excellent job with the swimmers’ zones and beaches.
Waste separation bins have been set up on many beaches. The authorities now need to organise a fully-fledged campaign to educate people to keep the country clean.
Lying on a sandy beach full of small pieces of charcoal, apart from other waste, particularly cigarette butts, is disgusting. Where are the green wardens when you really need them?
