Ridiculously Priced Virtu Ferries

Malta Independent Sunday, 6 September 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

I must first thank Henri Saliba of Virtu Ferries for his condescending reply to my above-entitled letter. He obviously tried his utmost to throw doubt on the facts that I had quoted in my letter.

He says that I “claim” to have paid e44 for an open return adult ticket for a 90-minute fast-ferry crossing in Greece. I had provided the website to corroborate my facts. But then, once again, he cannot believe the obvious, since he is also claiming that I invented the e137 quoted on his very own Virtu Ferries website for a 90-minute crossing to Pozzallo. If this be the case, then it is the newly introduced Virtu Ferries online booking that is defective. Why does he quote e64 for the above trip when everyone knows that this price is for a day-return ticket? He can quote as many prices as he thinks fit, but nothing will hide the fact that Virtu Ferries is ridiculously priced.

For the record, when Virtu Ferries online-booking came up with the exorbitant e137 per adult, I obviously chose to fly to Catania with AirMalta, which was cheaper and much quicker! One cannot but bless competition, for with the newly-introduced Efly low-cost airline to Catania starting in September, Sicily will finally be out of Virtu Ferries’ clutches.
