After a fortnight, the response of the Church authorities to my letter (16 August) has been total silence. The questions are simple – Are educators in Church schools, students and parents to be treated differently and destructively? Is it true that certain Church schools are planning to start one week before other schools, that is, by mid-September?
It is difficult to interpret the lack of response from the ecclesiastical authorities. Are the questions being studied carefully before an appropriate answer is Given? Or is it complete disregard or ignorance of the situation? Perhaps the proverbial ostrich has made an untimely appearance? More worryingly, should we ask whether the Good Shepherd is looking after his flock?
I believe it would be an honest and courteous act on the part of the relevant authorities to confirm or deny the statements. If they were true, this would raise many more pertinent questions about the status of Church schools. Sadly, the understanding and sensitivity mentioned in my previous letter seem, at the moment, to be conspicuous by their absence.
