Tennis: Kordin Club’s coaching clinics

Malta Independent Wednesday, 9 September 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

One of the main aims of Tennis Club Kordin is the promotion of the Tennis Game. For this purpose, this year’s coaching clinic will be starting on 4 October and come to an end on 30 May 2010.

Throughout this period, three sessions of coaching will be held between 9.30am and 12.3pm. These include sessions for adults wishing to improve their game and, for those who would like to take up the game for the first time.

The Tennis Club Kordin’s coaching team is made up of qualified coaches under whose guidance thebudding players will be entrusted.

Young children (five to eight years) are first introduced to the game through Mini-Tennis classes. These are held on mini-courts, which are one-quarter the size of a proper tennis court, equipped with small nets and using soft balls/green spot balls. These balls bounce far less than an ordinary tennis ball, thus giving the very young children more chance of hitting an oncoming ball over the low net. At the same time, the young players have more time to concentrate on the swing of their arm.

After two years at this Mini-Tennis stage, children are promoted to higher classes where they will concentrate more on the technical aspect of the game. Aggression and tactical approach are taught later on when the children have mastered the basic techniques of tennis.

Applicants are hereby informed that applications are to be made Online through the club’s Web Site at www.tennisclubkordin.com (under coaching) by not later than 27 September.
