Last Saturday, Sirens ASC organised the first Joe Muscat (id-Debu) Memorial Under 13 Tournament.

Id-Debu, as he was known by all those who knew him, was for many years, a player, coach and official with the St Paul’s Bay side and worked tirelessly to attract young boys from his hometown to the game of waterpolo. Joe Muscat passed away earlier this summer.

Six teams – Sirens, Sliema, Neptunes, Otters, Exiles and San Giljan – took part in the tournament, with Neptunes emerging as winners, Sliema runners up and Sirens in third place.

A total of nine games were played over the course of seven hours. Referees Miro Caruana and Peter Giordano officiated all nine matches.

At the end of the tournament, Dr. Mary Muscat, niece of Joe Muscat, together with club president Dr Lino Vella, presented trophies to all participating teams.
