Customs Officers

Malta Independent Saturday, 19 September 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

So your reporter decided to give a sarcastic impression of the two customs officers who appeared in court to testify against a Ghanaian national who was apprehended by these same officials at Mia as reported on tour newspaper (TMID, 15 September).

Apparently these were called at short notice to testify in court, whereas in normal circumstances, the police inform customs personnel weeks before such sessions.

Without doubt, I assume that the Finance Ministry did welcome the court ‘s verdict as far as revenue is concerned. Not so your reporter, who decided to ridicule both officials by their ‘shabby appearance in court.

How about commending these two clever officers for their prompt action?! Such negative comments would only encourage more lethargy in the public service. Don’t you think so?

Finally well done Mr John Sammut and Mr Richard Briscoe.
