After reading the piece written by Stephen Calleja, (TMIS, 6 September) I wish to add a more scandalous decision to his theme by stating that the said government is causing more harm to the economy too.

Why did some minister or parliamentary secretary, or maybe even Cabinet, decide not to extend the lease of the Magic Kiosk in Sliema? Just before the general election, many similar leases with comparable circumstances were approved.

The decision not to extend the lease resulted in loss of revenue with regard to bills relating to telephone, gas, TV, electricity and water and other licences, VAT, philanthropic donations, tax, and many other new tariffs that might crop up. These are all lost.

Obviously, many jobs were lost too. And so did the income for many a salesman and various agents, who to this day curse this strange and fascist act.

One thing though, the target to pave and add concrete and cement (the emblem of Sliema) and open the site with much pomp, just before the European Parliament elections, was accomplished.

But the aim was never achieved, because, as stated in the article, it was a record defeat for the PN.
