There were some disappointing results for the Maltese national team at the European Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, earlier this week.
The team was composed of relative newcomers Daniel Bajada, Daniel Vella Fondacaro and Matthew Micallef.
In the teams competition, the Malta team played in the Standard Division for places 41 to 44. They ended in 44th place after losing 3-0 to Azerbaijan and 3-2 to Kosovo.
In the match against Kosovo, it was Bajada who obtained the two wins – 3-0 against Y. Prestreshi and 3-1 against L. Citaku.
Matthew Micallef lost both matches – 1-3 against Citaku and 3-0 against Prestreshi.
In the singles competition, the three Maltese players lost all their first round matches 0-4.
Matthew Micallef lost to Teodor Yordanov of Bulgaria, Daniel Vella Fondacaro lost to Erik Illas of Slovakia, while Bajada lost to Vladimir Ivanek of Bosnia Herzegovina.
