It is customary to quote and quote statistics to bring down any government achievement if you are in opposition. Contrary to what many politicians try to impress us with, the citizen is mainly interested in whether he can make his own private investment and be able to keep it.

Keeping one’s own investment is most crucial when it comes to political manipulation. Or is the worker fed to be robbed? How many vain promises were given by past governments for work through which the worker could manage his own savings, only for them to be absorbed totally by banks.

As if that were not enough, how many angry citizens are harassed by unjust promises to those who think they can make other people’s property their own through manipulation with legal instruments?

What I would wish to see in Malta is not rhetoric and playing with figures, but good honest politicians who stand up for the citizen’s rights and who do not try to justify their actions with cryptic answers.

This is what we need in Malta – a good dose of transparency where justice does not play into the hands of politicians and where scoundrels do not run to them to cover their “little discrepancies”. Disillusion in politics is not unknown, but this is also a step further where the security of one’s rights to his own are at stake.

MPs may be aware how important this is to the citizen who is not mainly interested in figures which do not mean much to him simply because he is not a factual auditor. However, citizens are interested in the injustice of being cheated through undeclared sources of power.
