No Work on road works

Malta Independent Thursday, 24 September 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The other day I stumbled by chance across a cutting from this newspaper dated March 2006 in which the communications co-ordinator at the Gozo Ministry reported what was allegedly happening regarding road repairs and reconstruction on this island.

Among those specifically mentioned were: Victoria-San Lawrenz , Mgarr Road, Xlendi Road and Ramla Road.

These so-called road works, “most of which should be finished by the end of 2006, some of which extending into the first quarter of 2007,” we were told, “cover more than 19 per cent of Gozo’s arterial and distributor road network.”

We are now nearing the end of 2009, yet the Victoria-San Lawrenz road still does not reach San Lawrenz, the Mgarr-Victoria road has not progressed beyond the limits of Ghajnsielem (after which point it is barely even lighted), Ramla Road does not reach Ramla and Xlendi Road has not been started.

Is there any chance of an update, now that the general election is far behind us?
