Minister Mifsud Bonnici is right to praise the work of enforcement agencies in the war against drugs. However, where is the push to remove the desire for drugs? Malta is a jewel in the Mediterranean and one has to ask what is it that people are looking for in drugs?

Escapism: From what? If Malta is failing its people with employment, social care, housing and the like, it should be easily rectified.

Hedonism: Then one has to ask why on such beautiful islands sufficient hedonistic behaviour cannot be found in the music, culture and scenery. Does modern television offer unrealistic lifestyles or are the young not being shown how to enjoy life without drugs.

Which ever it is, Dr Mifsud Bonnici needs to have discussions with his colleagues in the health ministry to devise appropriate solutions.
