On Friday 2 October 2009, Lawrence Buttigieg, also known as Belin, a resident in the Elderly Section at the Gozo General Hospital, reached the age of 100. Mr Buttigieg has three children: Margaret, Joe and Francis.

He is the first client in this unit who celebrated his 100th birthday.

For this occasion a thanksgiving mass was administered at the hospital chapel by Bishop Emeritus Mgr Nicholas J. Cauchi, assisted by Fr J. Calleja, Fr A. Mizzi, Fr R. Galea, Fr M. Mintoff, Fr J. Cardona and Fr J. Sultana.

Mr Anthony Borg, from the Gozo Ministry, represented Hon. Giovanna Debono Minister for Gozo. The Buttigieg family wish to thank all those who contribute towards the care of their father. Next Sunday the Sannat Local Council is organising a mass and a party in honour of Mr Buttigieg. I hope that the Sannat Local Council will give the merited tribute to Mr Buttigieg by giving him the highest local honour, Gieh Sannat.
