ICT Student Association, The student’s voice within the Faculty

Malta Independent Saturday, 17 October 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

In the light of the current circumstances and article written to the editor entitled ‘Shortcomings at the University of Malta’, dated 5 October 2009, the ICT Student Association would like to make clear its position.

As a student association, ICTSA has been in existence since 1992 however it has only been until lately that it has effectively established itself as a faculty based association. ICTSA currently caters for events such as programming competitions and LAN parties as well as academic issues, namely student complaints. It acts as a go-between the student and the faculty. Throughout the past academic year, ICTSA has been at the forefront to voice student concerns and issues as well as delegate them with the lecturers and the Dean of the faculty of ICT. Some of the issues were resolved whilst others needed more time and discussion.

The ICTSA team would like to confirm that the association is not involved with the issue of the mentioned article. As an organisation we always believed and encouraged students to voice their concern through ICTSA and not through an external media source. However, by no means can ICTSA restrict the right of expression on any student even when such an expression is issued in media sources.

Most of the problems included within the mentioned article are deemed to fall within the responsibility borders of the University and not specifically to the Faculty of ICT. Care should be taken in such regard in order to avoid useless harm to the faculty and associations representing it.

On a concluding note, we would like to encourage all students within the Faculty of ICT to use ICTSA in order to voice their concerns and academic problems which they may encounter. Further information can be provided on www.icstamalta.org or else by e-mailing us on [email protected].
