A Book worth reading

Malta Independent Tuesday, 20 October 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

I do not usually read Maltese literature, but recently I came across a slim book entitled: Zmien il-Hsad by George N. Cassar, a retired Lyceum Headmaster. I can honestly say that I read it from cover to cover, unable to put it down.

This book is mainly a collection of short essays written in free, flowing style. They are based on human relationships and life in general, with a fair sprinkling touch of humour.

One chapter entitled Mill-fjamma ta’ qalbi u ta’ mohhi is made up of ‘six open letters to my nephew’. In my opinion, this title would have been more apt than the one chosen by the author which one associates with agriculture.

This is one of those few books that should be ‘chewed and digested’ especially by students in the senior forms of Secondary schools. At e5 a copy, this book is a real grab.
