UPIM Opens in Valletta

Malta Independent Sunday, 25 October 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Michele Peresso Fashion Ltd, a member of Michele Peresso Group of Companies, has opened a second UPIM department store in Melita Street, Valletta.

UPIM Valletta has a total retail area of 967 sq. m. and is spread over seven floors.

In order to offer total comfort to their customers, Michele Peresso Group has installed more escalators to all floors. The additional escalators were installed in the building under very difficult conditions due to both the structure of the building and street restrictions. Thus, a total number of five escalators will now make it easier for the numerous patrons who are expected to visit and browse around the store and benefit from the good value for money products on offer.

With its 967 sq. m., UPIM Valletta is surely one of the largest retail shopping centres in Valletta, and the largest in the core of the city's commercial centre.

The Michele Peresso Group of Companies and UPIM have kept their commitment to invest heavily in the Maltese Islands, notwithstanding adverse economic conditions.

The Valletta opening is part of a €6 million investment for the next years, as announced last March on the occasion of the opening of the first UPIM Store in Gozo. Moreover, as part of this commitment, Michele Peresso Group, over the last 10 months has already employed 50 staff (25 from Gozo). With this new UPIM in Valletta, Michele Peresso Group has taken on another 15 new employees, bringing the total recruitment to date to 65. This is certainly not bad, considering the bleak economic situation prevailing both in Europe and Malta.

It is Michele Peresso Group's intention that, if this UPIM Valletta new opening is another success story, the group will employ a further 36 staff in the forthcoming year, meaning the employment of 86 staff in a relatively short period of time - a significant number for a firm specializing in retail.

The realization of the project, involving the opening of a number of UPIM Stores in Malta, is the result of the determination and enterprise of the Maltese private sector, which even in moments of economic difficulties remains the main contributor to the Maltese economy and the employment market.

Good customer service, point of sale communication, product information and attractive benefits enjoyed through UPIM Loyalty Card incentives will remain the prime objective of UPIM philosophy in Malta, optimising a harmonious synergy between UPIM's retail concept and UPIM's customers.

UPIM has over 175 direct stores and 210 in franchising located all over Italy and in Europe.

Today UPIM is composed of a number of high profile investors among which are Deutsche Bank, Pirelli and the Borletti family.
