The New Choral Singers, under the direction of Robert Calleja, will be presenting a concert of sacred music at St Mark’s Priory in Rabat at 8pm on Saturday, 14 November, as part of the open weekend entitled ‘Vetustior Glorior’ being held in aid of restoration works that will be carried out on the façade and interiors of the church in St Augustine Street, Rabat, next door to St Mark’s Priory. The repertoire for the occasion will include a variety of items that range from the hauntingly beautiful ‘If Ye love Me’ by Thomas Tallis to the uplifting ‘Exultate Justi’ by Ludovico Viadana. The 40-strong mixed choir will also interpret items by composers such as Bach and Mozart, and a selection of Marian items such as the ‘Regina Coeli’ by Ignaz Reimann and ‘Bogoroditsye Dyevo, Raduisia’ by Sergei Rachmaninov. The evening’s programme concludes with excerpts from the ‘Magnificat’ by Antonio Vivaldi.
