In your editorial And about time (TMID, 5 November), you categorically stated that “The whole of Europe wanted the (Lisbon) treaty to be pushed through”.

Sorry, but where did you get this assertion? Have you any European statistics or polls to prove this? Are you assuming that all 450 million Europeans agree with the Lisbon Treaty? Maybe the 27 EU members do agree, but the entire populations?

Why weren’t we Europeans given the chance to express our views in a European Referendum if the authorities truly believed in such support?

The truth is that they are cognisant of the fact that had they given the people the chance to express their wishes, the people would have thrown it out.
