Every year, Mqabba Local Council presents the ‘Gieh l-Imqabba‘ award to a person who has contributed in some way to village life in general. Teddy Farrugia was awarded ‘Gieh l-Imqabba 2009’ at a soirée organised by the council on 24 October at Mqabba Primary School hall in celebration of Imqabba Day.

Mr Farrugia has been at the helm of the Socjeta Muzikali Madonna Ta-Gilju (Our Lady of Lilies Musical Society) of Mqabba since 1984, so this year was a special one for him, marking as it did the silver jubilee of his appointment as the Society’s president.

There have been many achievements for the Society during the 25 years of Mr Farrugia’s presidency. He contributed towards better feast celebrations – one of the main characteristics of Mqabba, and introduced several initiatives that were unknown in other Maltese band clubs. His ideas and strong sense of leadership has enabled the society he represents to rank with the best-organised societies of its kind all over the Islands.

On behalf of the various sections making up the Socjeta Muzikali Madonna ta-Gilju, and Mqabba residents, we congratulate Mr Farrugia and wish him further success in his work with both the Society and the village of Mqabba as a whole.
