The Robbery

Malta Independent Sunday, 15 November 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

I refer to the successful conclusion of our court case related to our unfortunate experience in 1995 that has recently made the headlines. It is gratifying to see that justice has been done, though only in part, after 14 years of long suffering and with an award some six figures short of our actual claim.

To those retired judges who shed much light on the difficult case, I here express my gratitude and appreciation, as well as to Dr Joe Schembri, the standard-bearer of a legal band of brothers, for the clarity and intensity of proof that satisfied the requisites of justice, not forgetting, regretfully posthumously, the late Judge Farrugia for his kindly light all along.

Teamwork indeed: hours of discussion by so many for so long. To all, my heartfelt gratitude.

It is not for mortals to command success. But we did more, Sempronius; we deserved it.

Dr J. Zammit Tabona
