Zminijietna – Voice of the Left believes that communications company GO should rethink its strategy and increase investment in the retraining of its workers and the creation of good quality jobs, rather than reducing the number of workers through voluntary schemes and engaging new workers on a fixed contract.
Call centres are a case in point, where workers are engaged on short contracts, thus increasing insecurity and making it difficult for workers to plan their future and obtain services such as bank loans. From many studies the efficiency of workers on a fixed contract is low when compared with other workers who are on a secure job. This is because workers on contract feel estranged from their work.
Zminijietna – Voice of the Left appeals to the government and the business sector to invest more in good quality jobs rather than precariousness.
Competition should not result in a low standard of living and inferior working conditions. We are hereby showing our full solidarity and support with all workers who are facing discrimination and humiliation due to neo-liberal policies and procedures.
On a European level Zminijietna supports the left spectrum made up of the united left block, the socialists and green parties which campaign in favour of a Social Europe based on good quality jobs.
