Peruvian Province Of Cayma awards diploma of honour to Marsascala mayor

Malta Independent Sunday, 22 November 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

I would like to offer my congratulations to Marsascala mayor Mario Calleja who is currently on a missionary visit to my parish of La Tomilla in the Province of Cayma in Peru. In the last five years Mr Calleja has visited my parish twice to help the poor families. On 12 November, the mayor of Cayma Province, Senor Ulises Torres Mentas Revilla, on the occasion of the 186th anniversary of its foundation, awarded Mr Calleja a Diploma of Honour to show the town’s appreciation for the Marsascala mayor’s commitment to help the poor, the sick, the emarginated and the children of our parish. He praised Mr Calleja’s hard work and collaboration with members of the Missionary Society of St Paul.

During his speech, the Cayma mayor also dwelt on the vital charitable works being carried out by the Missionary Society of St Paul and singled out Father Alex Busuttil and Father Victor Livori for their assistance.

I feel it is my duty to write that Mr Calleja’s missionary visits are always fruitful and he makes it a point to support our elderly, the poor, schools and clinics, bringing supplies of medicines and foodstuffs that help us feed hundreds of people in our parish of La Tomilla.

This time, Mr Calleja is accompanied by his friend Joe Micallef, founder and president of the Philharmonic Society of St Anne. Thanks Joe, for your support.

I take this opportunity to express my thanks to the numerous benefactors who contributed to the success of Mr Calleja’s visit, the parishioners of St Anne, the businessmen, and last but not least, Dr Josie Muscat of the St James Group who gave our clinics much needed medical equipment.

May God bless you all.
