On 29 March, my letter with the above title appeared in The Malta Independent on Sunday making a public appeal to what I felt was an injustice on the part of the Education Department. As far as I know, no answer has ever been given by the Department to either explain things to me or to defend itself against the accusations.

This comes as no surprise, as the same department has never replied to another letter in which I accused it of discriminatory treatment when I was employed as a casual teacher in 1994, in spite of an MA and PGCE, on the sole basis of having foreign citizenship, which contradicts the dual citizenship law that states I have been a Maltese citizen since 1964. The Education Department’s legal adviser insisted that the Department’s policy was legal. If so, then there must be a law stating that the Department had the right to discriminate against those not having a vote.

I have, over and over again, asked where I could look up such a law, but no answer has ever been given. Until I am given a concrete reference to such a law, I can only assume that the Department’s actions towards me were totally unsupported by law.
