Excellent write-up dear editor (TMID 11 December – ‘Mollycoddling and cottonwool syndrome’) but you missed one very important point.

Your comment about leaving mummy at 31 only to marry another mummy is very true but I would venture to add that this mentality is so deeply ingrained in the Maltese society, that it extends to individuals (and whole families, sometimes): when they fail at an endeavour, they expect the government to immediately step in and make good for their missteps.

In reality leaving mummy for another mummy often leads to finding yet another mummy named ‘government’, and in reality, our overly generous social services encourage it!
