If you’re panicking because your wine rack or cellar are empty as the Christmas festivities approach, then panic no more. Wine lovers and connoisseurs can browse through over 1300 wines very easily, thanks to The Store’s unique system of classifying its selection of wines by price and colour. The Store is P. Cutajar’s flagship shop in Mriehel.
“From feedback given to us by consumers,” said Gunther Micallef Decesare, marketing manager at P. Cutajar & Co, “shoppers very often feel daunted by the vast range of wines often found on shelves. Consumers feel overwhelmed and are sometimes unable to make up their mind whether they should choose by region, by grape, by estate or by brand name, let alone by vintage.”
“Shoppers very often have a budget anyway when shopping for bottles of wine,” he continued. “At The Store we’ve come up with an innovative classification which might also be the most obvious for the majority. One can now head for, say, the e10 or e20 rack of red wines and only then browse through a selection that’s already been conveniently narrowed for them. The way it works makes it so easy to see at a glance the wines available in whatever price range.”
The price of a bottle of wine does not always reflect the quality levels of the product. Wine making is labour intensive and this is reflected in the price of wine as are the methods employed in making the wine. However, as in any other manufacturing business, economies of scale impact greatly and large-scale companies churning out millions of bottles annually do it at a small percentage of the cost sustained by small wineries. “This makes is perfectly plausible to shop for good quality wines that come cheaper because of lower production costs,” added Gunther Micallef Decesare.
Shoppers looking for a bold Chilean red such as the Misiones De Rengo Carmenere Cuvee to accompany the traditional Christmas meal or a Martini Asti to toast with, as well as Christmas hampers and chocolate delicacies, The Store is the place to find it.
