GO Supports ‘l-Istrina 2009’

Malta Independent Sunday, 20 December 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 17 years ago

GO has, for the 10th consecutive year, pledged its full support to l-Istrina – Malta’s high-powered fund-raising campaign scheduled this year for 26 December. GO prides itself on being one of l-Istrina’s longest-standing partner and supporter and recently presented the Malta Community Chest Fund with a hefty donation of e21.379 from call charges waived by GO during last year’s edition of l-Istrina.

Apart from being the official communications provider for l-Istrina, GO offers its support by waiving call charges and other expenses connected with donations made by phone during the huge fund-raising initiative. Last year alone, GO provided its man hours and communications infrastructure for free to l-Istrina so as to ensure that all the communications systems were in place.

Logistic preparations are currently in full swing at one of the newest Lufthansa Technik (Malta) hangars in Hal Farrug, Luqa earmarked as the venue for L-Istrina 2009. GO recently installed a state-of-the art phone-in system at the venue that will enable members of the general public to pledge their donations via a telephone call to an indicated number. Donation lines will operate on two separate hunting systems dedicated to donations of varying denominations.

Besides the provision of sophisticated telephone donation lines, GO’s involvement with l-Istrina includes various communication services at the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF) premises in Valletta and the L-Istrina Office at San Anton Palace.

GO communication services at the massive l-Istrina 2009 marathon include PABX equipment, fixed lines, 60 donation lines for e12 donations, 30 to receive e24 donations, a substantial amount of other exchange lines, hot lines, pledge lines, general lines with hunting, SMS donation lines and other mobile connections, data connections for high-speed ADSL (WiFi /epos – business connect) as well as DTTV connections at various strategic points earmarked for use by the l-Istrina teams.

As for staff, GO again plans to have a team on site during the event and in various GO exchanges and operations centres around the island.
