Reference is made to the letter entitled “Unsuspected Dangerous Cargo” (TMIS, 6 December).

The company would like to clarify that the cargo under reference was carried in full compliance with the Malta Maritime Authority’s Commercial Vessel Certificate as provided for in the Commercial Vehicles Regulations 2002.

Insofar as concerns the delay in disembarkation, this was a minor delay caused by operational exigencies though the company apologises for any inconvenience. Safety announcements are normally broadcast at the beginning of every trip, though it cannot be excluded that the announcement is sometimes not heard in all areas of the vessel due to technical difficulties or human error.
