Malta Independent Tuesday, 22 December 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

A man was handed down a four-month suspended jail term for 18 months and fined e748.81 after pleading guilty to assaulting his wife and son, slightly injuring them.

The incident happened on Friday 22 May in Cospicua, when a domestic argument between Angodej Micallef, his wife and son, escalated into a violent one.

The court, presided over by magistrate Lawrence Quintano, heard that Micallef had also violently resisted arrest and slightly injured police sergeants Kenneth Vella, Conrad Falzon and constable Clint Zahra. He had also threatened his wife with a firearm, was found guilty of the illegal possession of the arm, using obscene language and breaching public peace. The protection order in favour of Micallef’s wife and son was extended by six months.

Inspector Fabian Fleri prosecuted.
