House For President in Gozo

Malta Independent Sunday, 17 January 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

I refer to the letter of E. Grima entitled “Requisitioned since 1958, will it now be requisitioned for the President?” (TMIS, 10 January) in which he mentions a proposal that I made for the need for a house in Gozo that would be the residence of the President when visiting Gozo and a museum on other days.

Mr Grima felt aggravated by the fact that one of the houses I mentioned that could possibly fit the bill has been requisitioned since 1958. Of course there is no way that I could know whether a house is requisitioned or not and I cannot understand how Mr Grima, “as one of the many to whom the house belongs” expects me to know.

I made the suggestion that I feel is very valid and important for Gozo. The choice of house is certainly not mine to make and I have no doubt that no one will consult me, in any case. If my proposal is taken up, which I sincerely hope it will, other considerations such as that mentioned by Mr Grima will have to be considered.

For the record, I am in no way in favour of the government requisitioning houses.
