Mediterranean Bank plc has appointed Ray Calleja (right) as Head of Consumer Banking.

Mr Calleja's banking career began with Mid-Med Bank (which was taken over by HSBC in 1999) in 1978. He occupied various managerial roles within the bank, including the Debt Recoveries and Factoring Departments. He also worked as a Premier Relationship Manager and later Senior Premier Relationship Manager, managing a small team of relationship managers looking after a portfolio of high net worth customers and providing priority service to the bank's best customers.

He joined Credit Europe Bank NV, Malta Branch, in November 2007, heading the Retail Banking Unit, where he spearheaded the successful retail banking operation that opened in Malta offering savings and fixed term deposit accounts.

Mr Calleja has an honours degree in Financial Services from the University of Manchester and is an Associate of the Institute of Financial Services.
