Siggiewi were already sure of a playoff place, and they continued with their fourth seasonal victory over Bupa, a defeat which left the champions in a tussle with Depiro, for the third, and final, playoff place, with Athleta also certain of a place in the second phase of play. Bupa need to fill that third position, if they want to defend the title they have won for the last two seasons. The Violets had a good start, and held a lead, after the opening session, but they were buffeted in the next two periods, as Siggiewi established a winning advantage, playing some direct, and fast play, and keeping tabs on their adversaries in the zone.
The Schembri brothers obtained the first points for the Violets, but Siggiewi turned the score around, as Louis Camilleri put in a couple of hoops. Steve Schembri levelled the score for the champions, with his triple, and Bupa went on till the end of the session, to grab two advantages, the second of which they held on to, through JP Bonnici. Siggiewi were the more alert side in the second quarter, and they built up a solid 12-2 run, when Marco Matijevic made his first points. Bupa had to stop the course of the match, but had to endure further points against, before Steve Schembri sank his second trey. There were still more hoops to come at both ends, as Siggiewi went in at the interval, on a 32-22 advantage.
After the break Siggiewi began to let loose, as Camilleri started them off with his triple. An 8-2 run followed, with Jide Jetson hoops, and after some points from the Schembri brothers, for the champions, it was Siggiewi once more, with another 12-2 run, and a brace of Karl Borg triples. The Violets were left behind, although there were yet some more points till the end of the period, but Siggiewi were on a solid 59-34 lead. In the final session Bupa started to get closer. They began with a Robert Azzopardi trey, and soon made a 12-2 run of their own. Siggiewi tried to stop them, but the champions crept to 58-71 behind. There was still a lot to be done, and when Siggiewi came up with a 10-1 run, it was all over. The two teams netted further points, but the result was a foregone conclusion, as Siggiewi were once more on level terms with Athleta, but having played a game more.
