SmartCity Malta has announced the appointment of Cracknell as the landscape architects for its project.

Landscaping work includes the entire SmartCity Malta site and encompasses all phases of the development.

Cracknell is a design consultancy of landscape architects, architects and planners with wide ranging experience in public realm projects. Over the past years they have been involved in projects located in the Middle East, Europe, Eastern Mediterranean, Africa, and the Far East.

Cracknell was first established in London in 1987, and its Dubai office is the largest landscape and urban design practice in the Middle Eastern region. Their portfolio includes the landscape design of some of TECOM’s prominent developments, including Dubai Media City, Knowledge Village, Dubai Healthcare City, and its flagship Dubai Internet City. More recently, they have been involved in the design of Burj Khalifa Public Realm, Residential areas, Streetscapes and Open Spaces.

Benefiting from the firm’s ability to address a wide range of conditions in terms of type, scale, geography and climate, Cracknell’s scope of work extends from the strategic and master plan level through to the detailed design and construction. Key landscape elements of SmartCity Malta include the entry gate and Main Boulevard, urban ring road, coastal promenade, lagoon, and cascading terraces. The streetscape and lighting scheme will further set the ambiance and enhance the built environment.

The inherent quality of SmartCity Malta’s Ricasoli site will be carefully considered and integrated into the design, thus promoting best sustainable practices. Selection of an appropriate plant palette, together with addressing soil management and irrigation techniques will ensure a healthy landscape over a long period of time. The design of SmartCity Malta’s public realm will provide creative landscapes that are engaging, functional, and stimulating for all knowledge workers.

The first deliverables from the project will be the release of 12,000 square metres of office space later this year.
