The McLaren F1 Club (Malta) recently published the eleventh issue of its official annual magazine, Pitpass. The 32-page colour magazine was launched in December during the annual Christmas get-together for its members.
The usual review of the 2009 Formula One season is compiled by the club’s former chairperson Penelope Ciangura.
Pitpass also includes write-ups by club members, officials and local motorsport correspondent and broadcaster Godwin Cini. In an interesting article titled ‘The first driver to win the Formula One world championship on a Mercedes’, Cini outlines the successful career of Juan Manuel Fangio – the maestro from the land of silver.
Other contributors include Stephen Micallef and John Caruana. The latter writes about some of the controversies which characterised last season’s championship and compliments the club officials, especially the former chairperson, for their dedication and hard work.
Micallef’s article, titled ‘What an astonishing comeback!’, delves on the fortunes of the McLaren team during the first and second half of the 2009 F1 championship.
Club official Ian Ciangura gives a detailed day by day account of the club’s tour to Silverstone, while Victor Bruno Olivier gives readers an account of his visit to the David Coulthard Museum in Twynholm, Scotland, where he had the opportunity to meet David’s sister and her father. Of interest to fast lane enthusiasts are the tables and statistics, as well as the 2010 F1 calendar.
Editor Penelope Ciangura writes about the magazine’s popularity and states that Pitpass is a feather in the club’s cap. She goes on to write that ‘… I’m enormously proud of the success it achieved’ while emphasising the big boost the magazine has given the club during the past 11 years.
