The Pope Is not passing through our area!

Malta Independent Friday, 5 March 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 17 years ago

We wish to bring to the attention of the general public, and especially to all the authorities concerned, the state of the roads in the industrial estate of Attard.

We are a group of workers who work in this area and one can imagine what an ordeal it is for us to go to and from work.

Unfortunately, our situation has become unbearable. We have been working there for years now and have seen the area getting worse and worse. We cannot even count the number of tyres we have had to change so far because of the dreadful state of the roads of this particular area. In winter, whilst driving, one does not even manage to see the carpet of large potholes there is, while in good weather, it is a very hard task not to pass through them.

Moreover, in the dry weather, the area becomes very dusty as the roads have no surface. On windy days we have to cover our faces not to inhale so much dust. Due to this situation we frequently suffer from respiratory ailments.

We are concerned first and foremost about our health and also about the damage costs being incurred by us to keep our own private cars fit on the roads – tyres, shock absorbers, ball joints, rims etc

We ask the authorities concerned to give their immediate attention to the matter. We all have families to take care of and prefer to make better use of our hard earned salaries than to pay for the damage costs of our cars and / or to recover from health problems due to the unhealthy environment of the Industrial Estate of Attard – our workplace. We too pay taxes!
