Appreciation – John Zammit

Malta Independent Sunday, 14 March 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

I was so shocked to hear that John Zammit had passed away on Wednesday 10 February. My wife Amanda and I met John and his Monica in a restaurant, The Riviera in Marfa three years ago. He will always be remembered for his great charismatic, cheerful, friendly character. He was so sincere, unique and unusual.

We kept in touch since then, and he always mentioned his family and of his ambition to join the Malta Diplomatic Corps someday in the future. His colleagues at the Central Bank, where he worked will miss his friendly cheerful presence.

A few months ago, in November I got a phone call to meet somebody at Santa Lucia Café Bar in Attard. So I went there and I was told to go to a table where two gentlemen were sitting; one introduced himself as Mr Amato Gauci and the other as John Zammit. I did not recognize him and over a coffee, he explained that he was ill and receiving treatment. I told him to be brave and hope for the best. He hugged me and I told him I would contact him soon.

I will always remember him and I am so sure Our Lord in heaven is ever so pleased to have John Zammit near him to cheer everybody up.
