Now is the time for the Prime Minister and his government to take a stand against the EU.

Dr Lawrence Gonzi is right that the new Frontex rules make no sense at all. And he should pull out of it at once.

Migrants know what they are doing. They choose to put their lives at risk and pay for the privilege to do so. It costs them thousands to do this. Now if they have such a bad life in their own country can someone please tell me from where they get the money to pay for it in the first place?

1. They look healthy when they are brought ashore (which I am sure I would not if I had travelled in those conditions and that far).

2. The ones that have been let out into the Maltese community do not look hard done by; they have the latest mobiles, the latest fashion trainers and so on.

3. Can someone also tell me how they can send thousands of euros back to their own country? They certainly cannot earn that sort of money here, not on Maltese wages. I have been behind them in the local paper shop and post office when they have done so.

4. Oh to be so lucky to even have that to live on for a couple of months or more; they all seem to have cars to drive about.

Who pays for this? Is it the Maltese government? When I moved to your lovely country to live I had to prove I would not be a drain on the government’s finances.

No matter how hard up I have been, I have never asked any one to help me here or in England, to much pride.

I don’t think we can accommodate any more of these people. It is too small an island to do so.

Yes, people who are drowning should be saved. But let us remember that they are not only putting their lives at risk; the people who have to go pick them up are getting little thanks for doing so.

Prime Minister Gonzi should stick to his words and not host the Frontex any more.
