The unanimous decision to alter the role of Azzjoni Nazzjonali from that of a political party, to an organisation which promotes the values it believes in, was reached yesterday evening, following an extensive deliberation process.

The Executive Committee believes its principles and values may be better served and propagated in this manner. In a statement sent to the media, AN said a number of factors had affected this decision, including that electoral laws are engineered in a manner which makes the representation of a third party in parliament practically impossible.

Secondly, the fact that increasing numbers of the electorate have lost all trust in the entire political class. AN has also concluded that the major challenges facing our country at the moment are more of a cultural than of a political nature.

In the near future the party will hold a general meeting, with the aim of seeking support for the statute changes and the necessary structures which would allow for this alteration in role.
