World champion Aaron Ciantar says it will be a bigger challenge this year in Evolution Class
World Supersport champion Aaron Ciantar yesterday told an enthusiastic audience at the Chaudron Factory in Fgura that the new boat Ukrainian Spirit, manufactured in Malta by the Ciantar family’s company Chaudron will provide him with a bigger challenge than in the past.
The company is directed by Aaron’s father Charles who has made a name for himself in Malta and abroad, manufacturing the now well-known Chaudron boats. He, together with Aaron and Victor Chemchuk of The Ukraine, unveiled the boat yesterday which must be described as something magnificent. Sprayed in grey and light yellow colours, it is an eye-catcher and looks very impressive.
Aaron is expected to give it a try sometime today, if the weather permits.
Victor Chemchuk, his throttleman, has decided to invest in Malta once again, and together with Ciantar, they expect to do well in the Evolution Class.
Until last year, they had taken part in the Supersport Class, winning it for three times in succession.
Ciantar said yesterday that the Evolution Class will certainly provide him and the team with a bigger challenge. “We have to get accustomed to each other and the boat, but I am convinced we will do well as we did in the Supersport class,” he said.
Chemchuk also addressed the gathering saying that he believed the boat will be as fast as it is beautiful. “I must thank the family Ciantar. They have produced the best boat in the world in its class. This project is the work of Ukrainian investment and the production of a Maltese. Last year we promised the championship title with Seagull and we managed it. This year, we are promising to do well even in the Evolution Class and we will also be going for the title. I am convinced our promises will be fulfilled once again,” he said.
He also thanked the Maltese government for its support and added that he hoped the medals for the Yalta event in Ukraine will be made in Malta.
Finance Minister Tonio Fenech and Parliamentary Secretary for Sport Clyde Puli also addressed those present saying that they were glad to be supporting a successful venture, in the hope that this ‘fantastic’ boat will again give a very good image of the country.
They both praised the Ciantar family adding that they were capable of excelling in this sector. “Their partnership with Chemchuk of the Ukraine was important not just for them but also because it helps the local economy,” said Minister Fenech.
They both augured success for Chaudron Ukainian Spirit.
The boat was blessed by Fr Joe Vella.
Also present for the occasion was Mr C. Agius MP (PL), Shadow Minister for Sport, and other distinguished guests.
