It seems that as far as Ghajnsielem is concerned anything goes with impunity. I have in mind the annexation of public land by the Grand Hotel at the Ghajnsielem Belvedere. Some residents in the surrounding area, including the undersigned, have protested about this with the competent authorities. However, the Belvedere has not been restored.

Part of the Belvedere has been taken over by the Grand Hotel, destroying an accessible ramp in the process and removing a historic plaque commemorating the inauguration by Prime Minister Gorg Borg Olivier in the sixties.

Interestingly, in other localities where public land or development which irks residents is attempted, protests organised and led by the local council mayor have been held – not so in Ghajnsielem. Why is there all this silence and inaction on such a sensitive issue as Ghajnsielem’s Belvedere overlooking Mgarr Harbour?
