It would be interesting if a calculation is made on the amount of our nation’s deficit owing to the extra wide pavements foisted on some locality roads.

Examples abound, take the Mgarr to Mosta road. Another example which sees more heavy shackled traffic is the Coast Road. These and other roads when originally built had two lanes in both directions, or at least long stretches in which overtaking could be safely attempted.

I am no economist or risk assessor but the narrowing of roads has increased our traffic bottlenecks. The tailgating slow moving traffic has increased exhaust emissions.

Other increases undoubtedly can be notched up in frayed nerves and the impossibility for emergency services to reach unobstructedly their destination swiftly in their missions of mercy. So what is all this feet shuffling about re-widening the Salina stretch of the Coast Road to its original width?
