Another year has gone by and once again we come to celebrate the Congress of The Holy Name Society. This happens to be the 77th Congress and as usual it will be held on Pentecost Sunday. This year it will fall on 23 of May, 2010 and will be organised at the Parish of Christ the King, Paola.
The Congress will open at 8am with a Mass at St. Ubaldesca Church which wil be celebrated by Fr. Joe Vassallo O.P., the National Chaplain of the Holy Name Society and which will be broadcast live on TVM.
At 6.30 pm everyone is invited to meet at St. Ubaldesca Church where the Society’s hymn will be sung, followed by a short , welcoming speech and a biblical celebration with the theme ‘The Name of God’. The Paola choir ‘Halleluljah’ will be taking an active part during this activity.
At 7 pm there will be the procession with the statue of The Good Shepherd which will end in the parish church of Paola and at 7.30 pm there will be a Mass concelebrated by the Archbishop of Malta, Paul Cremona together with a number of priests and religious members. This Mass will be animated by a group of young people from the same parish.
As preparation to the Congress many activities would be going on during the week. These activities will be held in various clubs, including Football Clubs, Band Clubs, Political Clubs, the Tennis Club and the Bocci Club as well as the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade and various religious movements. There will also be Mass and Eucharistic Adoration.
This mission as well as the Congress itself aim at instilling awareness of the horrible vice of blasphemy and hence to lessen this same vice and to strengthen in us our love for the Eucharist and our respect for the Holy Name of God, of Our Lady and the Saints.
