GO has just hit the important milestone of 50,000 TV customers.

As the 50,000th GO TV customer, Joseph Farrugia from Kalkara has received a GO Box+, the new generation HD-ready set-top box.

GO achieved the 50,000 subscriber mark after barely three years since the start of its commercial operation on the basis of its value-for-money packages, quality service and the company’s sound investment in network infrastructure and expansion. GO’s TV service has certainly proved to be immensely popular with the local market, as its customer base has soared beyond all expectations.

At present, customers who switch to GO TV receive a voucher consisting of a €100 discount off an LCD TV starting from 40” from the exclusive range of LCD TVs available at Forestals. The offer is open to new and existing customers who subscribe to any of GOs TV packages by 31 May.

Meanwhile, more and more people will undoubtedly be switching to GO as the current football season ends, in anticipation of the next football season that begins in August and for which GO has won exclusive rights to the English Premier League and Italian

Serie A.

The new generation set-top box, GO BOX+, was the first to be launched in Malta back in December 2009. The box, which is HD-ready, includes a hard disc that allows customers to pause, rewind and record live TV. Recently, GO launched its first HD TV trials in a number of outlets.

“GO’s HD trial started recently, with customers already benefitting from the viewing of HD channels via its network. In the coming months, more customers will be enjoying GO’s HD TV service as the company deploys on a wider scale its Next Generation Network, through which this service is provided,” he said.

In view of the added requirements resulting from the transmission of the English Premier League and Italian Serie A, GO is currently upgrading its core TV infrastructure to allow the simultaneous broadcast of multiple live events, including football matches from the English and Italian leagues. Upgrade work underway at GO’s TV operations facilities at the Maghtab headend will include a new playout system.

GO would has pointed out that all its customers can watch the FIFA World Cup matches being played between 11 June and 11 July in South Africa. All GO customers can watch the games free of charge via the free-to-air transmissions provided by TVM and other international channels.

Meanwhile, during a presentation held at GO’s retail outlet, Joseph Farrugia received his GO Box+ from Elaine Brincat, Retail Area Manager responsible for the GO retail outlet in Paola where the Mr Farrugia signed up for Home Pack.

He was now, he said, in complete control and could record a single TV show or even a favourite weekly series at the press of a button. In addition, the GO Box+ would allow him to record more than one programme simultaneously and watch it exactly when it suited him– thanks to the advanced Electronic Programming Guide (EPG).
