In his article last Sunday (16 May), Stephen Calleja was right to point out that Carmelo Abela had remained in office as Deputy Speaker despite the fact that no formal agreement on pairing had been reached in Parliament.
The fact that Carmelo Abela kept his position goes to show the gaping hole in gentlemen’s agreements between the two political parties. If Labour cannot keep something as important as its word, then how can it be taken seriously?
