Stephen Calleja’s article entitled “It’s all a matter of perception” (TMIS, 16 May) on the position of Deputy Speaker makes for interesting reading.

So the Labour Party was not prepared to discuss a pairing agreement, but had no qualms in keeping its hold on the position of Deputy Speaker until it was convenient to them. How typical!

So much for political maturity!
