It was with some surprise that I read of the connection made by Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici between bird-slaughter and self-slaughter of Maltese youth (TMI 29 May). Drug addiction is a reality and a scourge of many a society today. Regrettably it is also a reality in Malta and of great concern to all who have our youth at heart. Surely, however, KMB is not condoning the deliberate slaughter of animal life as the optimal, or even correct, moral option to the slaughter of human life. Surely in the 21st century Malta we can find a more sophisticated, tried-and-tested solution to drug addiction than that offered by KMB.
