Reference is made to the letter from Saviour Borg entitled “Display of development permits” in which he refers to two separate planning permits (TMIS, 23 May).

The Authority investigated Mr Borg’s claim that development application PA 1927/09 did not have a planning permit affixed to the site during construction work. This claim was unfounded given that when Mepa enforcement officers carried out a random site inspection they found that a copy of the permit was in fact fixed on site.

Mr Borg also queried where, in the existing development related to planning permission PA1338/99, the parking area was. The Authority investigated this claim and found a number of irregularities on site, which included both basement levels being illegally changed from a parking area into a server room, a staff canteen and store area. The Authority issued an enforcement notice against these illegalities.

The Authority would like to remind the public that, in order to provide a more efficient and simpler way for the public to report on environment protection or illegal development in Malta and Gozo, it has established a Mepa 24-hour emergency number 2069 9595 for this purpose, where all reports related to pollution control, littering, nature protection and construction site management can be made.
