Looking For the new generation of dancers

Malta Independent Sunday, 20 June 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

GymStars Gymnastics Club together with YADA GymStars Dance Academy of Tarxien recently organised a successful gymnastics and dance festival at De La Salle College.

The festival was well attended by parents, guests, and friends for the annual highlight of the year. The festival was created to give the opportunity to beginners of gymnastics and dance to start learning from as young as 18 months. The purpose is to instil interest and participation in the sport and dance for the long term. The respective coaches created gymnastics performances.

With choreography by dance director Felix Busuttil and Rachel Cassar, dances were fused with gymnastics with the idea of creating ‘The New Generation of Dancers’, along the lines of So you think you can dance.

Most of those present praised the professional and smooth running of the festival and expressed the wish that such a festival be held as an annual event. It was also an occasion for parents to see their own children perform.

Present for the occasion was the president of the Malta Gymnastics Federation Roberto De Santis and Dance Council President Alison White. The New Generation of Dancers starts in late September and will be Malta’s first and only fully comprehensive dance programme.
