Reading the letter sent by Victor DeGiovanni on behalf of the Communist Party of Malta (TMID, 24 June) on the tragic sinking of Cheonan, the South Korean warship, makes one feel that the innocent government of the Democratic’s People of Korea had absolutely nothing to do with the killing of 46 sailors and the vessel’s sinking.

The letter continues to manifest the political propaganda that the innocent democratic people living in that country are made to swallow through their throats by the totalitarian government of North Korea.

If one had to judge this story with another which involved the North Korean football team which was taking part in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, one immediately gets to know how the North Koreans are treated in their own country. The international media reported that the people of North Korea are not allowed to watch live any football games that their players played in South Africa.

These matches were vetted and relayed about 17 hours after they finished. Much more scandalous is the fact that despite North Korea lost their first match 2-1 against Brazil, the North Korean television censored this match, chopped to pieces and eventually produced a fictitious game where the North Koreans won 1-0.

Believe it or not that was what the North Koreans were made to believe! One wonders how the second match involving the North Koreans’ 7- 0 defeat at the hands of Portugal was re-produced on the North Korean TV. And Mr De Giovanni wants us all to believe that his comrades of North Korea had nothing to do with the Cheonan sinking.
